playlist: a love letter from RRA

Hey y’all, it’s Meera! It’s been a while since you’ve heard from me, but I’m back with our second RRA-curated playlist in honor of the season of love <3

As someone splitting her stay between the Heartbreak Hotel and the I Don’t F*ck With You Inn (some days are better than others, you know?), I didn’t expect myself to be returning with a blog about love. But recently, I saw a clip from one of my favorite comedian’s (Kenny Sebastian’s) podcast Simple Ken, Episode 31: Making Profitable Art ft. Biswa Kaylan Rath. In the episode, Rath says, “Do you know why we [Bollywood] make so many love stories? Because we [Indians] don’t get to love, we make romance films so we can see it that and live it out through those stories.” This really stuck with me and inspired me to bring this to you. A genuine representation of what the spectrum of love looks like through music. Because let’s be real, your life partner is not waiting to dance with you in the Swiss Alps.

So whether you’re celebrating Valentine’s Day cuddled up with your partner, pampering yourself (because you deserve it!), or spending quality time with your loved ones, here are our favorite songs by South Asian artists that will fit the mood of whatever you’ll be up to on the 14th. From lust to devotion, regret to mischief, these artists capture what modern love feels like. And I will admit, I’m not perfect and sometimes do wish I’d meet the Aditya to my Geet, Veer to my Zaara, and Bunny to my Naina, but until then, I’m happy to share this love letter to you from the team at RRA.

(And, if you’re Dev Patel and reading this, sunflowers are my favorite flowers. If you’re not, enjoy the playlist)
